Among the planets that shape our longing, Saturn stands alone. He does not seduce like Venus or ignite like Mars. He does not dissolve boundaries like Neptune or transform like Pluto. He does not nurture like the Moon. Saturn restricts, delays, denies, and demands. He is the planet of winter, of the bare branch and the frozen ground. To speak of Saturn in a book of desire may seem strange, even unwelcome. Yet without Saturn, desire remains a child, impulsive and unformed. It is Saturn who teaches us that some things are worth waiting for, that some hungers deepen with time, and that the greatest intimacy is not the one that burns hottest but the one that endures.
